Farooq currently works as Director Finance for a social eCommerce startup based in Middle East and South Asia called Dealcart.Farooq has previously worked as Director – Global FP&A at Afiniti, one of the largest pure play Artificial Intelligence/ B2B SAAS company in the world. At Afiniti he worked with Sales, Engineering and Deployment teams to analyze time logs and effort spent on different clients, countries and products to develop models for analyzing return on engineering efforts versus costs.
He led efforts to introduce efficiencies and effective resource utilization resulting in improved ROIs and profit margins. Before Afiniti, He worked for over 8 years at FrieslandCampina, one of world’s leading dairy cooperative based in Netherlands in various roles including FP&A, Corporate Controlling & Budgeting, Treasury and Insurance and Business Planning. He collaborated closely with business teams on setting P&L goals, re-allocating resources and aligning business strategy with high-level financial goals. Farooq interacted cross-functionally to conduct detailed analysis of business spending, identifying areas for cost optimization and improvement.
His experience in the FMCG and technology sectors in functions like FP&A, Budgeting and monitoring, corporate controlling and planning, financial modeling, business valuation and planning make him an ideal fit for teams aiming at creating value through better financial planning. Asma has worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm headquartered in New York, USA. At McKinsey, Asma worked with clients across various industries including banking, logistics, basic materials and manufacturing in the Middle East region. She worked on projects which involved assessing current business models, understanding market positioning and assessing market dynamics, developing organizational strategies and designing organizational structures.
Previously, Asma worked for a leading South Asian pharmaceutical organization, Getz Pharma (Private) Limited, where she was responsible for identification and introduction of new business opportunities through new product launches, evaluation and execution of licensing deals and finalization of business partnerships with the aim of increasing organization’s global footprint. She was responsible for managing new business opportunities in South Asia, South East Asia, Middle East, Africa and CIS regions.
She is currently working as a Strategy & Product Lead for a digital, non-profit organization and is based out of Toronto Canada. In her current role, Sameen leads client engagements for second-party opinions that help corporate and sovereign issuers raise debt capital through green, social, sustainable and sustainability-linked financial instruments, with a focus on issuers in North and Latin America.
Prior to Morningstar, Sameen spent eight years at Shell in various roles including investment planning where she oversaw Shell’s investment program for its retail fuels business in Pakistan and managed business planning and analysis of Capital Projects with an annual Capex budget of USD 10 million. She also worked in contracting and procurement where she managed the end-to-end contracting process for the retail fuels business, including developing procurement strategies, project scoping and negotiations.
Sameen’s previous experience also includes five years at a US-based equity hedge fund, with USD 350 million in Assets Under Management, covering consumer discretionary stocks listed on NASDAQ and NYSE, and a corporate bank in Pakistan where she structured and negotiated USD 2 million in credit lines for corporate clients based on their business need and risk profile.
